SIGN THE PETITION - Methamphetamine/Mental Health Resources in QLD

So, I was finding it difficult to have a positive outlook on things recently and as I was scrolling down my newsfeed on my Facebook page, I had found a link to a page that insisted, "50 things to love about life that are free". Upon clicking this intriguing link I stumbled on no.7:

"That I am someone who makes a real difference in this world". -Marlu A Soria

This inspirational reason for waking up tomorrow morning lead me to start the processes of creating a petition on removing the ingredients of Methamphetamine on the market, making it harder for the drug to be made and sold. 7% of 14+ year olds in Australia alone have tried meth at least once or inhabited an addiction. Between 2000-20005, 371 people passed from excessive meth use and figures increase yearly.

Methamphetamine, also known as; ice, meth, crack, crystal meth, crystal.

Users usually either snort, inject, swallow, smoke and eat it.

The affect meth has upon short term users include:

Feelings of pleasure and confidence
Increased alertness and energy
Repeating simple things like itching and scratching
Enlarged pupils and dry mouth
Teeth grinding and excessive sweating
Fast heart rate and breathing
Reduced appetite
Increased sex drive

Long-Time users:

Extreme weight loss due to reduced appetite
Restless sleep
Dry mouth and dental problems
Regular colds or flu
Trouble concentrating
Breathlessness
Muscle stiffness
Anxiety, paranoia and violence
Depression
Heart and kidney problems
Increased risk of stroke
Needing to use more to get the same effect
Dependence on ice  Financial, work or social problems

Not only that, but the withdrawals from the drug:

Cravings for ice
Increased appetite
Confusion and irritability
Aches and pains
Exhaustion
Restless sleep and nightmares
Anxiety, depression and paranoia

Methamphetamine is created in illegal meth labs with the toxic ingredients of:

  • Acetone- This is found in nail polish remover and paint thinners
  • Lithium- From batteries
  • Toluene- solvent used as fuel additive, in paint thinners, nail polish, brake cleaner
  • Hydrochloric acid- Highly corrosive mineral acid used to remove rust from steel and refine metal
  • Pseudoephedrine- found in cold medications
  • Red Phosphorus- found in explosives such as road flares and on matchboxes
  • Sodium hydroxide- also known as lye, in drain cleaners
  • Sulphuric acid- found in toilet bowl and drain cleaners
  • Anhydrous ammonia- found in fertiliser and countertop cleaner
  • Lantern fuel or lighter fluid
  • Ether found in starting fluid
  • Antifreeze
  • Iodine crystals
The drug causes serious depression and anxiety causing short term users to rely on it long term. Most people who use need further help to overcome their possessive thoughts the drugs created. Crystal Meth destroys any chance of a happy, normal life. As a stand-by viewer, the drug personally affected my family which lead to depressive phases throughout.. Instead of slapping addicts on the wrist and letting them flee free out into the world to continue breaking the law, or locking them up behind bars and taking them away from their families, consider finding them psychological help to over come the distress and the addiction without punishing them for their depressive stages which may lead to violence or further addiction to methamphetamine or other illegal drugs.

Please contribute to finding help for those in need. Sign the petition to help find better ways and resources for mental heath clinics and rehabs for people in need today! Just go to; Rehabilitation Clinics Petition
